ProsThe most impressive design aspect of the Toshiba Portege Z835-P330 is its lightweight build; at just 2.4 pounds, it is one of the lightest ultrabooks on the market. Unlike some more expensive ultrabooks, this Portege has keyboard back-lighting which is calibrated perfectly for working in dark environments. The wide ergonomic design of the keyboard aids in preventing the keys from being cramped while the battery life truly lives up to the reported eight hours of use. It is also great to see a USB 3.0 port on this machine as typically they are only available on more expensive alternatives.
ConsA widely-reported negative with this Portege ultrabook is the noise of the fan. There is a hum that can be heard when it is resting on your lap or an uneven surface that is high-pitched and irritating. The processor, being a Core i3, is at the lower end of the spectrum but is not a major deterrent when the price is considered. The hinges feel slightly flimsy and cheap, but are not necessarily structurally flawed in design.

In our search for a reasonably-priced, powerful ultrabook, we came across the Toshiba Portege Ultrabook Z835-P330 and simply had to take a closer look. The Portege line is Toshiba’s contribution to the ultrabook market, aiming to provide a portable, powerful solution to any individual, regardless of budget. Featuring one of Intel’s patented ultrabook Sandy Bridge processors, one would expect premium performance from this machine. In order to further determine whether or not this Toshiba Portege is a sound investment, we will examine the product details and price of the ultrabook and determine what specifics give it an advantage or disadvantage when compared to other ultrabook selections.

As briefly mentioned prior, this ultrabook runs on the Intel Core i3-2367M (1.4 GHz) dual-core processor. The operating system is a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium and features integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics. Providing storage to this ultrabook is a 128 GB solid state drive and the 4 GB of DD3 memory aid in the speed and extent of running multiple programs. A 13.3” screen provides a beautiful resolution of 1366 x 768 and also has an HDMI port for output. When it comes to communication, a web-cam and microphone are included to keep one in touch with friends and family. Finally, two USB ports (USB 2.0 and 3.0) give the user the ability to transfer files and connect peripherals while the long-lasting lithium-ion battery provides up to eight hours of continuous use.
Conclusion
The Toshiba Portege Z835-P330 will cost approximately $950 and is situated in the lower-end of the ultrabook pricing spectrum. What is interesting about this ultrabook, however, is that many of its features put it in competition with other ultrabooks that are $200-300 more expensive. While those who are seeking a top-of-the-line ultrabook may wish to select another option, the Portege makes a great entry-level investment for anyone who is constantly on the go and needs as much convenience as possible while doing so.
